District School Climate Plan
School Climate in Bristol Public Schools
Bristol Public Schools is committed to creating and sustaining safe, inclusive, welcoming, and supportive school environments where every student and adult feels valued, respected, and connected. This District School Climate Plan aligns with Connecticut General Statutes §§10-222aa–10-222jj and reflects best practices outlined by the Connecticut State Department of Education.
School climate is defined as the quality and character of school life, grounded in strong relationships, equitable practices, student voice, and shared responsibility for well-being and success.

How School Climate Work Is Led
Each school is required to develop a School Climate Improvement Plan that:
-
Aligns with the Connecticut School Climate Standards
-
Includes protocols and supports to strengthen classroom safety and guide the prevention, identification, and response to challenging behavior
-
Is informed by school climate survey results, recommendations from the School Climate Committee, and other relevant data
Each school is supported by a School Climate Specialist, who plays a key leadership role in advancing school climate initiatives by:
-
Leading the development and implementation of the School Climate Improvement Plan
-
Supporting the prevention, identification, and response to challenging behavior
-
Promoting restorative and relationship-centered practices
-
Facilitating the work of the School Climate Committee
The School Climate Committee is a diverse group of school stakeholders—including staff, families, students (as appropriate), and community partners—who collaborate to review data, reflect on school experiences, and help inform strategies, supports, and interventions that strengthen school climate.
