Memo from Commissioner Russell-Tucker: Preventing Youth Suicide in Connecticut

Posted Date: 06/25/26 (03:00 PM)

Good Afternoon Parents,
Please see the attached memo from Commissioner Russell-Tucker with information for families and caregivers regarding the prevention of youth suicides during the summer break.

Connection is Key This Summer 💙

As summer break begins, we know this time of year can bring excitement, new adventures, and opportunities to make memories. It can also be a big change in routine for students who may miss the daily connections and support they receive during the school year.

Staying connected is an important part of supporting our children’s well-being. Take time to:
☀️ Connect with family — share meals, enjoy activities together, and create meaningful moments.
☀️ Connect with community — encourage friendships, explore local programs, libraries, parks, and summer activities.
☀️ Connect with support — talk with your child about how they are feeling and know that help is available if needed.

A caring conversation, a check-in, or simply spending time together can make a difference. Youth who feel connected are more likely to thrive — now and in the future.

If your child or family needs support, resources are available:
📞 Call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
📞 Call 211 for Youth Mobile Crisis support
🌐 Visit CTConnectingtoCare.org for children’s mental health and behavioral health resources

This summer, let’s continue to build a community where every child feels seen, supported, and connected. 💙
