Superintendent's Weekly Update- December 14, 2025

Posted Date: 12/14/25 (09:00 AM)

Dear BPS Community:

Today, we pause to remember the lives of the 20 children and six educators who were murdered in the tragic events at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown on December 14, 2012. We hold their families, loved ones, and the entire Newtown community in our hearts, honoring their memory with compassion, reflection, and resolve.

Please join me in honoring the memories of those lost and in keeping their families in our thoughts today.

In partnership,
Iris White
Superintendent of Schools

Coffee with the Superintendent:
Thank you to the Boys and Girls Club for inviting me to hold a Youth and Community Roundtable with youth, staff, and parents at the Cambridge Park Clubhouse.  I enjoyed hearing about the students' experiences and plans, and I appreciated the opportunity to answer their insightful questions.  My favorite question of the afternoon was, "How is Bristol Public Schools preparing me to achieve my hopes and dreams?" Powerful. These students are our future leaders, and the future looks bright because of them.

Later that evening, I had the pleasure of meeting with the Commission on Persons with Disabilities. Thank you to Chair Daniel A. Micari for accepting my offer to present on BPS initiatives and share our commitment to ensuring that all students feel connected, supported, and engaged. I enjoyed the conversation and look forward to future discussions with community members.

UCONN People Empowering People:

Starting in January, the Bristol Family Resource Center (FRC) will offer the UCONN People Empowering People parent leadership training program in both English and Spanish.  The Bristol FRC loves partnering with UCONN on this initiative, which their FRCs have now facilitated for well over 20 years.

Every year, our PEP graduates strengthen their community connections, build lasting friendships, develop new career skills, and often move on to leadership roles throughout our community, while making a positive difference within their own families.  Please see the flyer (attached) or use the link below to pre-register or be contacted to learn more!
