Superintendent's Weekly Update- November 23, 2025

Posted Date: 11/24/25 (8:00 PM)

Dear BPS Community,
Today, on behalf of Bristol Public Schools, I extended condolences and support to Waterbury Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Darren Schwartz on the tragic loss of a father and son who were killed in an accident here in Bristol this weekend. Please keep the family and the entire Waterbury community in your thoughts during this difficult time.

Thank you to everyone who donated to our districtwide Food Drive on Friday, November 14, 2025. The collected items were donated to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Earlier this year, they generously provided more than 60 backpacks filled with school supplies for our families, and we are grateful to support them in replenishing their food bank.

In addition, our Central Office Team hosted a separate November food drive to support our neighbors at Agape House and families experiencing hardship. Thank you to Yomari and Allure from the ACCESS Program, who delivered the donations on behalf of the building. Our partners at the Agape House were sincerely appreciative.

We are looking forward to our annual Thanksgiving Day Bristol “Battle of the Bell” football game on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. Presale tickets can be purchased at Bristol Central High School, Bristol Eastern High School, Chippens Hill Middle School, Greene-Hills Middle School, Northeast Middle School, or West Bristol Middle School. Presale tickets are $6.00 for adults and $4.00 for students; tickets purchased at the game will be $7.00 for all attendees.

Student-athletes will be stationed at each side of the Muzzy Field entrance collecting canned goods for the annual Thanksgiving Day Food Drive. Student volunteers from both Bristol Central and Bristol Eastern will also assist with bell ringing and donation collection for The Salvation Army. We hope to see you there.

Wishing everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving with family and friends. As a reminder, Wednesday, November 26th, is an Early Release Day, and all BPS schools will be closed on Thursday, November 27, and Friday, November 28, for the Thanksgiving Break.

In partnership,
Iris White
Superintendent of Schools

Instructional Rounds:
Last Thursday, BPS conducted administrative instructional rounds at West Bristol School, Northeast Middle School, Chippens Hill Middle School, and BAIMS. These rounds offer administrators a shared opportunity to observe instruction and learning aligned to a focused question of practice connected to this year’s goals. By sharing strategies, observing in classrooms, reflecting, and discussing our findings, we deepen our shared understanding of how our efforts are taking shape, learn from one another’s approaches, and determine next steps for continuous improvement. Thank you to the administrative team and staff of all four schools for welcoming us. I personally had the privilege of joining the team that visited classrooms at Northeast Middle School.

The next Coffee with the Superintendent will be held in collaboration with the Boys & Girls Club on:
