The Bristol Public Schools Gifted Program strives to enrich the educational experience for all students. Formally identified students are included in pull-out sessions at each school every week. Students work on projects which include research, critical thinking and creativity.
Each school also has a gifted coach, who is a regular classroom teacher that also aids in the enrichment process. Coaches work directly with teachers to customize learning for students, and also run before or after school activities that benefit both identified and non identified students.
Last year's focus was multi tiered as we sharpened teamwork and problem solving skills through the use of Breakout EDU and STEM projects while also using technology to create our decades project. Our microloan project provided a basic understanding of how lending institutions operate and allowed us to understand the challenges of entrepreneurs in impoverished parts of the world.
This year's theme will be Everyone has a Story, a reinforcement of what teachers heard during our opening day Convocation. Through multiple mini projects, students will learn to "tell their story" in powerful engaging ways that include the use of technology. In addition, students will work to craft their own Breakout challenges and create world tours using Google Earth.
