Mentor Program

MAKING A DIFFERENCE ONE HOUR AT A TIME

Mentor Application Forms

The Bristol Board of Education mentoring program was founded by Fred Soliani and the Bristol Chamber of Commerce.  Through the support of our community, the Board of Education, and the Chamber of Commerce, the Caring about People Mentor Program has grown into a valuable resource that touches the lives of many.  We currently have active mentors from all walks of life who go into our schools weekly and provide our students with a one-on-one relationship that builds their self-esteem, reawakens their drive to achieve, and provides both positive role modeling and guidance.

Our program is always in search of new mentors.  We have many students on the brink of success who can greatly benefit from having a mentor come into their lives. We are currently seeking individuals who can make a volunteer commitment of an hour a week for the duration of the school year.  We are considered an on-site, school-based program.  Time spent with your mentee will take place only on school grounds during the school day.  Once a match has been made, it is our goal to maintain and nurture that relationship from year to year.  Some matches have been together for many years and the impact on both; the mentor and the mentee is truly amazing.

The mentor application process includes an interview, reference check, and receipt of background clearances.  Upon completion, training will be provided by the program coordinator.  Mentors will have the option to choose the school, grade level, and gender of the student they wish to partner with.

Please consider sharing the gift of your time, as a mentor.  When one person mentors, two lives are changed.  It has been documented that mentoring programs are vital to the success of our youth.  Mentoring allows us to see the potential in a child and encourages them to develop that potential.   A smile, a word of encouragement, or a listening ear, is sometimes all it takes to motivate a student and make a difference.

Together we can make a difference one hour at a time.
