Grade 5

Grade 5 Team:
Mr. Tartarelli, Mrs. Kulesa, and

Mr. O'Rourke

Much of the remainder of the year in math for 5th grade will focus on fractions Students are working with modeling improper fractions and mixed numbers as well adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators. Later in the year we will move into multiplying fractions and the very challenging unit on division of fractions. As math gets more and more challenging, students should rely on their notebooks for help, especially at home. Any time something new is taught in class, there will be plenty of examples and models in your child's notebook.

We are working with nonfiction text in both reading and writing. Nonfiction text features are being examined and students are determining how they can use no fiction text features in their own writing.

Our end of the year field trip to the Farmington Club is set. We will be going on Friday, June 8th. Information regarding the trip will be sent home after February break.
