~From the Principal’s Desk…
September and October are done already.... really? No, really? November starts when??? Can't be.....
Oh yeah... it's true. Although at times it feels as though it's flying by at a snail's pace our school year is moving very quickly. Thankfully Mother Nature has been very kind to us this year, and we certainly hope that her good mood continues! Could this be the year WITHOUT a snow day??? Here's hoping!
"Got Goals?" Goals have been an important theme in many conversations this past month. Thanks to all our families for joining us at parent conferences for updates on your child's progress and the opportunity to set learning goals as the semester continues. Our teachers are also working to set goals for themselves and their students. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to complete our school climate survey - we will share the results and look at areas where we can improve.
We are finalizing our school goals based on analysis of teacher and student data for our school improvement plan. The important element that brings all this work together is "our kids." WE (parents, teachers, administrators) are all working to improve the quality of every child's education - and that's a goal worth working toward! Out main focus are this year is improving Guided Reading instruction at all grades in an effort to increase student reading achievement. So far the teacher work has been excellent - with much more to come!
Safety: So far you are all getting "A's" for helping to keep our school safe. Two areas that I still need your assistance with are patience at arrival and dismissal - especially with traffic issues. Parking should ONLY be on the school side of Tuttle Road, otherwise cars/busses cannot move. I expect that traffic will become more problematic once snow starts to accumulate. We will monitor this carefully to be sure we keep our kids safe, and my thanks to parents who have made suggestions for improving traffic flow. Also, feel free to walk your child to the cafeteria side gate, give them the required huge hug, and then send them on their way to wait with their classes. The only adults on our playground should be staff assigned supervision duties. Thanks for your understanding and attention to this.
Now that we’re in November… it’s a great time to simply say THANK YOU:
… to our dedicated teachers and staff members who work each day to make a difference in the lives of our students. Your commitment to excellence makes South Side the best school in Bristol.
… to our South Side parents who continue to make education a priority for the kids. Your commitment to your children is an essential part of school success – you are a valuable part of the team that insures that each child reaches his/her potential.
… to our South Side Students. You are an amazing group of young people and we are proud to work with you! Your hard work will pay off… so keep it up!
…AND to the many South Side PTA Parent volunteers. Your work behind the scenes truly makes a difference at our school. Our parent volunteers work to raise funds, participate in orientation and welcome events for new students, give their time to be a visible presence at South Side events, and continue to look for new ways to support the teachers and students at our school.
Here's to another great month on "the South Side!"
