2012/2013 School Year Activities for the Gifted

 

  • Parents of the Gifted Night- Join Alan Theriault for an overview of giftedness, gifted education, Bristol school's program,  and how to advocate for your child. We begin at 6:30 P.M. on Monday, November 26th in the auditorium of the Board of Education building. John Pellino from the Connecticut Association for the Gifted will join us for this informational evening.
  • Saturday Scientists-This program is open to students in grades 5 and 6. Instructors from the CT Science Center will conduct hands-on projects with the students. The program is free.
  • Creative Writing Workshops -Quinnipiac University professor Ken Cormier will be coming to Bristol to bring his unique and creative flair for the writing process to our students. Selected students will then be asked to participate in our Poetry Ambassador program, where they will conduct their own workshops with elementary school students.
  • Poetry & Pasta-Creative writers and poets from the two high schools as well as the middle and K-8 schools will perform/read their work. Family members are invited to enjoy some of our students best work while we enjoy dinner at Nuchie's in Forestville. The program will be held in the Spring, with an exact date TBA.
  • Marine Biology Cruise-All of the elementary gifted students will participate in a day long adventure at the Norwalk Maritime Museum. Students will venture out into Long Island Sound on the research vessel "Oceanic". There the marine biologists, with the help of the students, dredge the bottom and net the sea. The contents are placed in a holding tank for the students to see and touch. Following lunch, students will work with instructors to disect and learn about squid, yuck! A tour of the aquarium will finish of the day.
