Welcome to the Bristol Public Schools and to our website. Our school district is located in the city of Bristol, Connecticut in Hartford County. Bristol is a vibrant and diverse city with a focus on community and economic development. Bristol’s rich New England history coupled with its central location provides residents with numerous opportunities for education, enrichment, and recreation.
The Bristol School District is comprised of twelve schools serving approximately 8,500 students in grades Pre-K through grade 12. Our school facilities include two high schools, two middle schools, two brand new K-8 schools opening this fall, and six elementary schools. The Bristol Board of Education is comprised of nine dedicated elected members. The 2012-13 Bristol School District budget is $106 million dollars.
Bristol Central High School is nationally recognized as a Vanguard School and Bristol Eastern High School was recently ranked by US News and World Report as one of the top public high schools in Connecticut. Graduating seniors are accepted annually into top colleges and universities nationwide. The Connecticut Association of Schools has awarded Chippens Hill Middle School (2010) and Ivy Drive Elementary School (2011) as School of the Year. Our schools continue to demonstrate growth in state and national testing results and our schools exceed the state average in many areas.
Bristol students benefit from a rigorous academic program delivered by our talented and highly effective teaching staff. The curricula is fully aligned with state, national, and Common Core standards. Instructional programs are student-centered, with a focus on the needs of each individual learner. We continue to develop common formative and summative assessments for every course offering, enabling our professional staff to consistently monitor student progress over time and to provide effective learning interventions when needed.
In addition to numerous Advanced Placement and on-line course offerings, Bristol students have access to a wide variety of academic and enrichment classes supported by a state of the art technology hardware and software infrastructure - all designed to fully meet the needs of high-performing students in the 21st century. Bristol is also host to many excellent sports and arts offerings as well as opportunities for vocational training and community service-learning experiences.
I am honored to serve as the Superintendent of Schools. I look forward to serving our students, parents and school community members in the years ahead as we work together to make a great school district even better. Please feel free to contact me with any questions that you may have about our schools and I thank you for taking the time to explore our school district website.
