Hello Jennings Families!
Thank you for making daily reading a major priority in your home! As you know, daily reading practice is critical for developing and maintaining both fluency and comprehension skills. Please continue to find the time to read every day with or to your child.
The reading logs are filling up nicely and the practice is evident in your child's literacy development here at school. Remember to keep the reading fun by dramatizing the print/text to express the author's true intent. This will promote fluency and add to comprehension. Try to also save some
time to talk about what is and what is not in the print (the inference) that helps to better understand the text. Continue to encourage your child to talk about the story in their own words with some specific vocabulary or phrases from the text mixed in or included. Most importantly, showcase your child's amazing reading skills by allowing them to read to all of your up-coming holiday guests! Reader’s Workshop which includes guided reading groups, is now in full swing! Additionally, Writer’s Workshop has also now been launched in all the classrooms K-5! Both of these programs are newly implemented approaches used district-wide that foster student independence and are geared more toward individual and small group progress rates.
To conclude, I’d just like to mention that I’m so very pleased and lucky to be working with such a wonderful Literacy Team which involves Mrs. Dayna Vitale as our Literacy Instructional Support Teacher and with Miss Michelle Buldoc as our Jennings’ part-time Literacy Intern. Both teachers are instrumental in student literacy acquisition.
I look forward to another productive and successful year! As always, please feel free to contact me with any of your literacy concerns. Thank you!
